Artvigil is a medicine manufactured by HAB Pharma that can help to promote wakefulness and alertness without the use of stimulants. It can be used to better regulate the body’s natural sleep/wake cycle, encouraging sleep overnight, and helping to keep patients awake and alert during the day. It is often used to reduce feelings of sleepiness in people that have been diagnosed with sleep disorders.
How Artvigil Works
Artvigil contains the active ingredient Armodafinil. Armodafinil is very closely chemically related to Modafinil, and the two work in very similar ways. Armodafinil interacts with the DAT proteins that transport dopamine – a neurotransmitter – around the body, preventing reuptake to increase concentrations of the chemical in the brain.
The higher the concentration of dopamine, the better the brain and body can communicate with each other. With improved communications, the brain can better understand when the body needs to rest, and when it needs to be awake and alert.
Artvigil is often prescribed to treat:
- Excessive daytime sleepiness
- Sleep apnea
- Symptoms of narcolepsy
- Shift work sleep disorder
- Difficulty concentrating due to sleepiness
- Sleep disorders that have not improved with Modafinil treatment
It is often advised to start taking Artvigil at low doses, gradually increasing the dose to achieve the desired effect. It is important to take Artvigil as recommended by the manufacturer, or as advised by your doctor for your individual circumstances.
Artvigil tablets should be swallowed whole, with water. Where possible, try to take Artvigil at the same time each day to maintain consistent concentrations in the body.
If a dose is missed, skip and take the next dose as normal. Do not take a double dose.
