Hypnite 1mg (Eszopiclone) is a prescription medicine manufactured by Sepracor. It’s classified as a sedative-hypnotic, working to slow down brain activity and encouraging the body to rest. For this reason, it is often used as a sleeping pill to treat common sleep disorders.
Hypnite generates similar calming and relaxing effects to Benzodiazepines. However, Hypnite is understood to be a safer alternative, with studies showing that it typically produces fewer side effects and withdrawal symptoms than ‘Benzos’. Hypnite is also not known to cause rebound insomnia following treatment, unlike some Benzodiazepines.
How Hypnite Works
Lunesta contains the active ingredient Eszopiclone. Eszopiclone works in a similar way to Benzodiazepines, binding to the GABA receptor in the brain. The GABA chemical acts as a neurotransmitter, communicating messages between the brain and the body.
The interaction between the GABA receptor and Eszopiclone creates higher levels of the GABA chemical, causing brain activity to slow down. This relaxes the muscles, and calms the body, creating a sleepy feeling and allowing the body to rest overnight.
Hypnite is often prescribed to treat:
- Temporary insomnia
- Chronic insomnia
- Difficulty falling asleep
- Difficulty staying asleep
- Recurrent early waking
The recommended starting dosage of Hypnite is 1mg. However, it is important to take the medicine as prescribed by your doctor. Hypnite should be taken by mouth, at the same time each day to maintain consistent concentrations in the bloodstream. Ideally, Hypnite should be taken just before bedtime, with peak concentrations reached in one hour. If a dose is missed, skip and take the next dose as normal. Do not take two doses.
Hypnite Side Effects
Hypnite is generally considered to be safe when taken as prescribed, especially at low doses of 1mg. However, as with many medications, some patients may experience mild side effects that are similar to those caused by Benzodiazepines, such as:
- Daytime drowsiness
- Reduced mental awareness
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Loss of coordination
- Nausea & vomiting
- Unpleasant taste
- Dry mouth
- Unusual dreams or nightmares
- Lowered libido
It is important for patients to read the patient information leaflet in the packaging for a full list of possible side effects from taking Hypnite. Always consult with the prescribing doctor if side effects persist. If experiencing difficulty breathing, call 999 immediately.
