Modvigil is a medicine manufactured by HAB Pharma. It is classified as a non-stimulant eugeroic, which is a medicine that promotes wakefulness and feelings of alertness.
Modvigil is highly effective at regulating the body’s sleep/wake cycle, and can help to reduce excessive daytime sleepiness. Because of this, it is often used to treat symptoms of incurable sleep disorders such as narcolepsy to improve a patient’s quality of life.
How Modvigil Works
Modvigil contains the active ingredient Modafinil; a dopamine reuptake inhibitor that can help to boost levels of the chemical dopamine in the body. Dopamine is an essential transporter of messages between the body and brain, and when levels are low, it becomes harder for the two to communicate. This can make it challenging for the body to tell the brain when it needs to rest, and when it needs to be awake and alert. By boosting dopamine levels, the brain and body better understand each other.
Modvigil is often used to treat:
- Symptoms of narcolepsy
- Shift work disorder
- Effects of changes to the sleeping pattern
- Obstructive sleep apnea
- Difficulty falling asleep
- Difficulty staying asleep
- Excessive daytime sleepiness
Modvigil is often taken initially at a low dose of 50mg – 100mg per day, increasing gradually to 200mg per day depending on the severity of the condition. It is important to take Modvigil exactly as indicated by the manufacturer, or by your doctor.
Modvigil tablets should be taken by mouth, swallowed whole with water. It is best to take Modvigil either with food, or after food, rather than on an empty stomach.
If a dose is missed, skip and take the next dose as normal. Do not take a double dose.
