Zoviclovir 200mg tablets are a prescription medicine manufactured by Healing Pharma India Pvt Ltd. They are a form of antiviral medication that is often used as a first line of defence against the tingling and itching of symptoms caused by the Herpes Simplex and Varicella-Zoster (chicken pox) viruses. While the medicine does not cure these viruses, it can help to lessen the pain and discomfort caused by the skin blisters and bodily sores that the viruses often present with during their periods of activation.
How Zoviclovir Works
Zoviclovir 200mg tablets contain 200mg of the active ingredient Acyclovir, which is also known as Aciclovir. The human body turns Acyclovir into Acyclovir Triphosphate which prevents a process known as polymerisation from occurring. This process is what helps viral DNA to replicate, causing viruses to run rampant in the body. By stopping viral replication, the virus goes into remission, with symptoms easing. The Herpes virus does not fully leave the body, and may reappear throughout the lifetime, often triggered by stress or illness. Zoviclovir 200mg tablets can be used each time the virus reappears.
Zoviclovir 200mg is often used to treat:
- Chicken pox
- Cold sores
- Genital Herpes
- Other Herpes simplex infections
- Infections in the immunocompromised (eg. those with HIV)
Zoviclovir 200mg tablets will usually be prescribed at different doses depending on what symptoms the medicine is being used to treat. Typically, doctors will advise their patients to take the medicine up to five times per day for a fixed course. However, it is important to take Zoviclovir 200mg exactly as prescribed for optimal results.
The tablets should be swallowed whole with water. Do not break, chew, or crush the tablets. The medicine can be taken with or without food. It is best to take Zoviclovir 200 at similar times each day. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
